Federal Pell Grants
Federal Pell grants are given by the federal government. The amount you can receive from Federal Pell grants will be determined by your family's income level and the amount of money they have to contribute to your college education. Most people are eligible for Federal Pell grants.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity grants are similar to the Federal Pell grants except Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity grant are given to those who demonstrate the most financial need. You can apply for Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity grants if you feel you would meet the criteria.
SMART Grants
You may qualify for SMART grants if you are already enrolled in college and are in your third or fourth year. SMART grants are mostly for those who have high scores in math and science.
Private Grants
Corporations and private citizens establish private grant programs to help students pay for college. You should research to find private grants that are offered for which you may qualify. Private grants are highly competitive grants. Since many people apply for private grants, you may have to submit an essay or give a short speech to the organization expressing why you are the best candidate for a private grant.
