Online Education From Satellite Locations

from: Kyle Besser

Online education courses are generally assumed to be those courses completed from your home, but that is not always the case. There are many forms of distance learning online. One distance learning online option is online classes from satellite locations.

Geographic location is the most common reason for online courses from a satellite location. If you don't live near a college and want to take classes, you are faced with traveling several hours each time a traditional class meets, moving closer to the college you want to attend or taking an online class on your own. Distance learning online education from satellite locations eliminates the need for you to make either of these choices.

Distance learning online education has become a popular option for public and private schools that have trouble recruiting teachers for specific subjects. In order to offer some classes, these schools become satellite locations. These distance learning schools associate themselves with another school that offers the class, and the students at the satellite location have the opportunity to take the class along with the students at actual location. Two way communication, including video feed, allows students in both locations to interact with the teacher and each other. Sometimes, several satellite locations meet at the same time, and three or four classes share the teacher.

The advantage of online distance learning is that students get to interact with the teacher, ask questions and hear discussion in real time without having to be physically present at the actual classroom. This concept is being used in locations around the world for a myriad of courses.

To find online distance learning classes available at a satellite location near you, check with local schools, colleges or universities. Your local library would be another place to check for distance learning online. You might be surprised to discover what is being offered in the way of distance learning online at satellite locations in your home area.
