Online Business Education Teacher Certification

from: Kyle Besser

Teaching online is different from teaching in a classroom because the teacher never actually sees the members of the class. Assignment due dates may or may not exist, and the teacher will have to hold online discussions with students throughout the day. This is a very detail oriented job that can allow more free time than teaching in a classroom but can also be inconvenient as the teacher will have to schedule online discussions at different times throughout the day to accommodate the varying student schedules.

To teach online, the teacher will likely have to be certified. Online teacher certification was established to ensure that instructors are qualified to teach online courses and to make sure that students are getting a quality education.

Not all online programs are reputable. Quality schools will have certified instructors. Teacher certification varies by state. A Bachelor's degree is necessary, and many states require the acquisition of a Master's degree for state certification to teach in public schools.

While almost all teachers who teach online must have appropriate state certification for the subject area and grade level they teach, this certification does not specifically cover online classes. Since teaching online is significantly different than teaching in the classroom, many schools that offer online courses require their teachers have specific online teaching training and very often require the teacher to complete their own training program.

Online business education teacher certification will teach you how to moderate an online class, how to give feedback, how to counsel and guide students and how to assign the types of projects that are expected to be completed. Online business education teacher certification will teach how to create business education lesson plans, lectures and assignments. The business education teacher will be expected to follow the business education school's guidelines as to the length of lectures and the types of assignments to be required.

Online business education teacher certification means that the business education teacher can teach a variety of online business classes for a specific school. This presents the opportunity to teach from anywhere. One could even travel and still be able to monitor students.

Many online business education teachers have worked in business for many years and then decided they want to teach. Many states have developed or are initiating programs that provide alternative routes for teacher certification, particularly for mid-career professionals who would like to teach. Generally, the applicants must have a bachelor's degree in the subject they want to teach, achieve a passing score on a state examinations, complete an intensive teacher preparation program and possibly a supervised teaching internship. After satisfactory completion of the requirements, the applicant will be issued a teaching credential.

Teaching online business education classes can be just as rewarding as teaching in a classroom. You will be helping others who want to have careers in business.
